Abstract

This study aims to determine the Utilization of the Instagram Stories Feature as a Self Disclosure Media by Riau Islamic University Students. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Researchers used observation and interview methods to collect the data needed in this study. Based on the results of the research and discussion that has been carried out, the researchers concluded that the Utilization of the Instagram Stories Feature as a Self Disclosure Media by Riau Islamic University Students was assessed using 5 dimensions, namely size or number, valence, accuracy or honesty, intent and purpose, and familiarity. Regarding size and number, it is known that UIR students in expressing their feelings on insta stories can be assessed quite often and describe what they actually feel. Regarding the valence, UIR students said they were happy after expressing their feelings on the insta story because it matched what they felt at that time, although there were also students who felt uncomfortable after doing this due to several things. Regarding accuracy or honesty, UIR students revealed that they expressed what they felt when they posted something on the insta story. Regarding the intent and purpose of insta story users in expressing their feelings UIR students have a specific purpose from the results of the posts they share on their respective insta stories. Regarding the familiarity felt by UIR students, using the Instagram story feature can increase the sense of intimacy between UIR students and their followers.
