Abstract
Scale is the result of mineral deposition originating from formation water produced with oil and gas which is influenced by several factors such as temperature, pH, pressure and the chemical compound ion content in the formation water. The formation of scale on production lines is a problem that often occurs in the oil and gas industry. The scale formed can reduce the inner diameter of the pipe which hinders fluid flow in the flowline, causing a decrease in production and causing damage to production equipment. Generally, scale forms around perforations, subsurface equipment such as tubing, and on surface production equipment such as wellheads and flowlines which is caused by friction between the fluid and the pipe walls, both flowlines and pipelines. Scale reduction is generally handled using hydrochloric acid (HCl) and ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA 2Na). This research will use organic acids and ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA 2Na). The organic acid here uses cocoa shell extract. Cocoa shell extract contains tannin which is expected to reduce scale. The organic acid content of cocoa pod husk will be tested using UV-Vis Spectophotometry and then testing the effect of adding 10 ml and 25 ml of cocoa husk extract concentration on scale control carried out in the laboratory with variations in time of 20, 30 and 60 minutes and temperature parameters. room and 60 °C. It is hoped that this research can provide information about cocoa shell extract on scales and reduce the occurrence of scales.
