Abstract

The use of motorcycles is one of the most popular means of transportation in Indonesia. Traffic accidents are one of the problems in Indonesia, including in Sungai Penuh City. One factor influencing accident rates is the risky behavior of motorcyclists. This study aims to determine the effect of the risky behavior of motorcyclists on traffic safety in Sungai Penuh City, as well as to determine the level of traffic awareness of motorcyclists in Sungai Penuh City. This study used quantitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires and research samples of 100 respondents of the Sungai Penuh City community with random sampling techniques. The questionnaire consisted of 24 statements divided into two variables: the risky behavior of motorcyclists and traffic safety. The research used in the distribution of this questionnaire used the Likert scale and data analysis techniques, namely simple linear regression tests. The results showed that the risky behavior of motorcyclists did not have a positive and significant effect on traffic safety and the risky behavior of motorcyclists contributed to or explained 17.4% of traffic safety, while the remaining 82.6% was caused by other factors, Such as environmental factors, road condition factors, time factors, and conditions while driving. The level of motorcyclists' awareness of risky behavior and traffic safety is moderate. Risky behaviors that are still widely practiced by motorcyclists are not using helmets on short-distance trips and driving motorcycles at high speeds. Traffic safety behaviors that still need to be improved are checking the condition of the vehicle and using gloves and shoes.
