Abstract

This study aims to determine communication strategies in increasing students' understanding of the teaching and learning process at Public Elementary School 157 Pekanbaru and to determine the factors that influence communication in increasing students' understanding of the teaching and learning process. This observation can be seen from the learning activities in the classroom, there are three interconnected components, namely teachers, students, and subject matter. Each student has different intelligence in capturing the message and the teacher's intention to explain. The type of research used is qualitative, with analytical techniques using descriptive analysis, while the data collection techniques are in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants who were included by researchers were 7 (seven) people. The results of the study explain that the communication strategy carried out by teachers at 157 Pekanbaru Public Elementary School has been running effectively and there have been innovations to increase students' understanding in the teaching and learning process, namely by using the pay off technique, namely activities to influence other people by giving prizes to children who excel and approach techniques. Meanwhile, the constraints that influence communication in increasing students' understanding of the teaching and learning process at Public Elementary School 157 Pekanbaru include: Habits of students when attending lessons; The courage of studentsto ask the teacher about material that they do not understand, students tend to be afraid to ask questions because they feel reluctant and awkward even though the teacher gives them the opportunity to ask questions. On the other hand the teacher assumes that all students have mastered the material because no one asks. Those that support the communication skills of SDN 157 Pekanbaru teachers in improving communication with students are: The enthusiasm of the teacher in delivering material and the teacher builds intimacy with students. The results of this study will be useful as a reference for teachers in arousing student learning interest.
