Abstract
The Mechanical Engineering Study Program at the Islamic University of Riau was established in 1984. Precisely on March 14, 1984, by the Kopertis Region 1 Medan with letter number 064/SK/KOP.1/1984. Since its establishment until now, the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at the Islamic University of Riau has been continuously making efforts to improve both the development of facilities and infrastructure, the enhancement and development of human resources quality, improvement of the learning system, and curriculum changes. Based on the observations and interviews conducted by researchers with laboratory personnel, currently, the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at the Islamic University of Riau aims to utilize Augmented Reality technology to promote their laboratory equipment, which previously they only promoted using 2D images and PowerPoint slides. Developing promotional media using this Augmented Reality technology can be one of the right solutions to increase effectiveness in promotion. The method used in the design and development of the application uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle method using Blender application, while the application is made using Unity with ARCore SDK. Based on the results of object tracking testing and light intensity, this application is able to display 3D animated objects within a range of 10 to 100 cm and able to track the position of an object in various locations, with the condition that the light intensity is above 34 lux. Based on the results of system implementation using a questionnaire, a percentage index of 82.75% was obtained, so this application is suitable for use as a promotional media to increase effectiveness in promoting mechanical engineering laboratory equipment.
