Abstract
ST37 steel is a type of metal that is widely used in the automotive field. Welding the joints on the truck bed really requires a good welding and cooling process so that the weld joints can be durable. Apart from that, the cooling process after welding must be really paid attention to in order to get good weld quality results. This research uses an experimental method by varying the cooling media: Air, udara, air radiator and cutting oil after the welding process. Based on the research results, it was found that the influence of variations in cooling media for ST37 steel SMAW welding on bending tests, impact tests and microstructure was obtained. The highest value in the bending test was found in the air cooling media variation, namely, 96 N/mm2 and the lowest value was in the Udara cooling media variation, namely, 73.36 N/mm2. .In the impact test, the highest value was found in the air cooling media variation, namely, 115.117 J/??2 . And the lowest impact value is found in the udara cooling media variation with the result, namely, 5.178 J/??2 . This is caused by the material in the specimen because the cooling rate for each specimen is different. And in the microstructure of variations in the air cooling media, the results show that the grain structure of ferrite and pearlite is evenly distributed in the base metal, HAZ and weld metal areas, which indicates that the material is ductile. Meanwhile, udara produces a ferrite structure that dominates the specimen, which causes the hardness level of the specimen to be the softest compared to other cooling media specimens.
