Abstract
The development of material technology has driven enormous changes in the use of materials, especially leaf spring steel. The purpose of this research is to increase the blade hardness of leaf spring steel through tempering process. This research begins with heating the specimen at 900?C with a holding time of 1 hour, then cooling slowly with air. After that, the tempering process was continued at various temperatures, namely 300?C, 500?C, and 700?C with a holding time of 1 hour. then quenching using oil and salt, then the impact, hardness, and microstructure testing process is carried out. The energy value and impact price of the specimen increase with the high tempering temperature of the specimen. The largest increase in value is obtained from tempering 700°C with oil cooling media, namely 1.45 J/mm2, while the smallest value at 300°C with salt water cooling media is 0.4 J/mm2. With the quenching process, the hardness value increases when compared to the initial specimen without heat treatment.
