Abstract

The significant wind potential in Indonesia is a reason to utilize wind energy as one of the sources of electricity generation. Utilizing wind energy as one of the sources of electricity generation has not been maximized. This is because the average wind speed in Indonesia is very low, especially in the western of Indonesia, and the research and development of wind turbines have not been maximized. The residential toll road is one of the long routes with wind flow generated by vehicle speed, in addition to local wind flow, which can be utilized as highly potential source for electricity generation. This research aims to determine the dimensions of wind turbines on toll roads and simulate them using Ansys Workbench 2024 R1 software. The method used is qualitative, involving the observation of wind speed data generated by the speed of vehicles passing through the toll road, with the anemometer placed 3,5 meters from the vehicles. The wind turbine used is a Savonius type with L-shaped blades, consisting of 3 blades, designed for a wind speed of 5 m/s with a diameter of 0,5 m, blade width of 0,28 m, and blade height of 1 m, a cover diameter of 0,55 m, and a shaft diameter of 0.057 m. The simulation, the wind speed varied at 2 m/s, 2.3 m/s, 2.5 m/s, 3 m/s, and 3.4 m/s. The highest result was 8.89 Watts with a rotational speed of 13.6 rad/s and a pressure of 7.919 Pa at a speed of 3.4 m/s.
