Abstract
Increasing petroleum production through the Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) method has become a promising alternative in facing the challenge of decreasing oil production in old fields. One MEOR approach involves the use of microorganisms, such as bacillus sp. bacteria, to reduce oil viscosity and increase oil recovery efficiency. This research uses variations in NaCl concentration and bacteria concentration, with the aim of finding out the optimal concentration that can reduce oil viscosity. This research consists of several processes, namely bacterial rejuvenation, bacterial suspension, incubation process, pH measurement, viscosity testing, and FTIR testing. Incubation was carried out in a water bath for a total of 12 days at various temperatures, namely 60°C, 70°C, 80°C, and 90°C. Next, viscosity testing using a Redwood viscometer and finally FTIR testing. The addition of NaCl at the optimal concentration provides an increase in MEOR efficiency, where there is a decrease in oil viscosity to 6.82 cp with an initial oil viscosity ratio of 13.69 cp at the same temperature, namely 80°C. Thus, this research shows that adding NaCl at the right levels can increase the effectiveness of Bacillus sp. Keywords: MEOR, bacillus sp., NaCl, oil viscosity, additives, increased oil production
