Abstract

The utilization of boiler crust waste can be functioned as an appropriate waste utilization, namely by being used as an alternative to cast sand additives for making paving blocks. Waste boiler crust is the result of burning the core and shell of oil palm, the characteristics of the boiler crust are almost similar to chunks of rock. This research was conducted XRD testing at the UNP Integrated Laboratory, on boiler crust waste and obtained chemical elements from testing, namely SiO2, C, and Cu2O. This study aims to determine the change in compressive strength value by using palm oil boiler crust waste as a sand additive with a mixture variant of 0%, 5% 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%, on compressive strength, and determine the feasibility of utilizing boiler crust used as an aggregate additive in the manufacture of paving blocks. This research was carried out using the compressive strength test method based on SN I 03-0691-1996. The test object is a cube with dimensions of 10.5 cm x 10.5 cm x 10.5 cm which was made using a mechanical method. Comparison of the composition used: 1Pc: 4Ps mixed composition with the addition of Boiler Crust from variations, 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. The average compressive strength results tested successively on boiler crust variations were 43.7 MPa, 39.5 MPa, 39.1 MPa, 35.8 MPa, 36 MPa, and 35.8 MPa. The conclusion and results of using boiler slag waste as an aggregate additive for Paving Blocks is that it can change the normal compressive strength value without a mixture of boiler slag. The decrease in the compressive strength value still produces paving blocks according to the SNI 03-0691-1996 quality standard which is classified as quality A. However, the use of boiler slag waste is not suitable for use as an aggregate additive in making paving blocks, because from the results of research in each Variations in the percentage of boiler scale decrease in compressive strength values.
