Abstract
The background of this research is Pokdarwis' desire to advance the tourism potential which is very much in District XIII Koto Kampar. The tourism with the most potential is in the village of Koto Mesjid with the tourist name Puncak Kompe. This research focuses on Pokdarwis communication activities in developing tourism potential in District XIII Koto Kampar. The purpose of this study is to find out how Pokdarwis communication activities build tourism potential in District XIII Koto Kampar. Communication activities are all activities that occur both physically and non-physically and are carried out to achieve certain goals that have been determined. In this study, the authors used a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach which aims to describe and explain Pokdarwis communication activities in building tourism potential, and used Miles and Huberman's analysis techniques. This research identified 3 informants, namely the head of the Pokdarwis, a visitor, and the local community. The results of this study indicate that Pokdarwis uses the Laswell communication model in spreading messages. Pokdarwis also uses active strategies and media-based strategies in conveying messages that have an impact on the Puncak Kompe tourist destination which is now widely known.
