Abstract

This research was motivated by issues in fostering the practice of congregational prayer, especially among students at Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas, West Pasaman. Some students did not participate in congregational prayer and played around during prayer. Thus, students needed guidance from Islamic education teachers. The problem statement in this research was the role of Islamic education teachers in fostering the practice of congregational prayer among students at Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas, West Pasaman. This study aimed to describe the challenges of the role of Islamic education teachers in fostering the practice of congregational prayer at the school. The theoretical framework described the teacher's roles as educators, instructors, mentors, coaches, advisors, models, routine workers, and evaluators. This was a qualitative study using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques involved data reduction, data presentation, and summary. The results indicated that the role of Islamic education teachers in fostering the practice of congregational prayer at Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas, West Pasaman, included providing understanding to students by explaining the benefits and purposes of congregational prayer and the rewards for those who perform it. Teachers taught or mentored students in performing congregational prayer. They trained and advised students in performing congregational prayer. Teachers served as examples and models for students to perform prayer and created programs for congregational prayer implementation and attendance records. This could be seen from the teacher's role in consistently providing understanding, teaching or mentoring, guiding, training awareness, advising, and serving as an example and model for students to become accustomed to performing congregational prayer.
