Abstract

Wells "AR1" and "AR2" in field "X". These are directional drilled wells using polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits with hole size of 8.5 inches and drilling depths of 785 feet to 2692 feet. "AR1" uses PDC bit type SDI519MHBPX and "AR2" uses PDC bit type SDI616M. To evaluate the performance of two different types of PDC bits used, the cost per foot and specific energy methods were no longer applied. The cost per foot method has been used to determine drilling cost and the specific energy method has been used to measure the performance efficiency required for the bit to penetrate through a unit volume of rock. This study shows that in terms of significant drilling cost and optimal bit performance efficiency, the use of two different types of PDC SDI519MHBPX SDI519MHBPX type PDC bits is superior in performing longer survey reduction measures at longer depth footage with a cost of $26.05 and energy usage of 5.31 in-lb/in3. The SDI616M in the "AR2" well can drill significantly more efficiently with short drilling time and small depth footage, so it can be used as a reference for selecting PDC bits for future drilling operations in the field as well. Taken seriously, this study will be an important contribution in determining the selection of PDC bit types that not only have lower usage costs but also have a better level of drilling efficiency.
