Abstract

This study was motivated by the roles of teachers in building students’ morals in the school environment. Moral is an important aspect of life, therefore moral development is very important to instill in students, the development starts from the family, school and community environment. Considering that the moral also influences a person's actions in the surrounding environment. Recently, there have been many deviations in children, such as lack of politeness towards older people. This has an impact on the daily lives of children who have the potential to behave badly if not handled well. The roles of parents and teachers need to be emphasized in building children’s morals. This study is very important, because moral building can be expected to provide motivation, guidance, understanding, ability and appreciation for students so that they can be realized in everyday life as a provision for faith and devotion to Allah SWT which aims to apply and develop knowledge to achieve life goals. The problem formulation of the study was the roles of Islamic Studies teachers in building students’ morals at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. The data collection technique of the study was interview. The results of the study showed that the strategy for the roles of Islamic Studies teachers in building students’ morals is by implementing habituation or training at school with the habits of saying greetings, behaving well, being honest, respecting each other and being disciplined in learning. All of these active roles are implemented by the school through the Islamic Studies Teachers who instill religious values in students.
