Abstract

THE EFFORTS OF ISLAMIC STUDIES TEACHERS IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ISLAMIC BEHAVIOR AT SDN 001 IN UNGAR DISTRICT, KARIMUN REGENCY FADLY GIOVANNY 192410029 This study is entitled "The Efforts of Islamic Studies Teachers in Improving Students’ Islamic Behavior at SDN 001 in Ungar District, Karimun Regency." This study was motivated by the challenges in improving students’ Islamic behavior in the era of globalization. The signs of student behaviors that were not in accordance with Islamic values, such as being less honest, impolite, and lacking respect for teachers, so to overcome these problems, then it demands the active roles from the Islamic Studies teachers. The problem formulation of the study was how the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers in improving students’ Islamic behavior at the school. The aim of the study was to determine the methods and strategies used by teachers in improving students’ Islamic behavior. The type of the study was a case study with a qualitative approach. The data collection teachnique of the study was in-depth interview with the Islamic Studies teachers. The results of the study showed that the Islamic Studies teachers applied several methods, such as being role models, providing positive reinforcement, and involving students in social activities to instill Islamic values, such as honesty, sincerity, obedience, and mutual respect. Apart from that, the teachers also used discussion and reflection approach to help students understand the importance of good behavior in everyday life. The discussions of the study revealed that the teachers’ efforts in improving students’ Islamic behavior did not only depend on the implementation of learning methods, but also included the creation of a supportive school environment, parental involvement, and role models provided by teachers. The conclusion of the study result showed that the success of improving students’ Islamic behavior was greatly influenced by the teachers’ consistency in providing direction and being role models. The suggestion from this study is the need for more intensive training for teachers to develop effective learning methods in developing student morals. Apart from that, the parental involvement in the education process is also important to strengthen Islamic values in the family environment.
