Abstract

The Quran is a guide or guidance for mankind to be safe in this world and the hereafter, so first the muslim must have the ability to recite it. The ability to recite the Quran is one of the stages in understanding the meaning contained in the Quran which can be applied in everyday life. Improving the students’ ability to recite the Quran cannot be separated from the efforts of the teachers or Ustadz and Ustadzah. There are some efforts that can be made by the teachers so that the students can recite the Quran well and correctly. The teachers should apply appropriate methods in learning the Quran, one of them is the iqro' method. The iqro' method is a very effective method in improving students’ ability to recite the Quran. The aim of this study is to investigate clearly the teachers’ efforts to improve students’ ability to recite the Quran by appying the iqro' method. This is a qualitative study. The subject of the study is the teachers of TPA Mintan Podomoro and the object is the teachers’ efforts to improve students’ ability to recite the Quran by appying the iqro' method at TPA Mintan Podomoro. The data collection techniques of the study are interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis techniques of the study are data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the teachers’ efforts to improve students’ ability to recite the Quran by appying the iqro' method are through the steps of learning the iqro' method, namely: providing examples of correct reciting and then the students imitate them, the students should observe the lip movements of the teachers and vice versa, the teachers should use clear or communicative expressions, and the teachers should asks students some questions to answer. So, by appying the iqro method, the students can improve their ability to recite the Quran according to what is expected.
