Abstract

This research discusses an incident of criminal acts of theft committed with violence where Indonesia as a legal country as stated in the Constitution has provided a firm guarantee of the importance of protection. Therefore, the crime of theft with violence is an incident that can disturb the comfort of the community and must be taken into account by law enforcement officials so that the public is safe in carrying out their activities. There were 436 cases from 2022 to 2023 regarding criminal acts of theft with violence in the Medan Police Legal area. With the emergence of this case, researchers are interested in researching more deeply in a scientific work. The formulation of the problem in this research is what are the factors that cause violent theft crimes in the Medan Police Department's legal area and what efforts are made by law enforcement officials to tackle violent theft crimes in the Medan Police Department's legal area. In this research the researcher uses a type of sociological legal research or empirical law and the researcher does this in "observation research" by means of a survey, namely by going out into the field to obtain accurate information and data, while the nature of this research is analytical descriptive, namely the researcher provides an overview and analyzes from complete, detailed and clear statements in this research and in this research the author uses a sample with the main data used in this research being primary data using data collection tools in this research through interview and secondary data only as supporting data . This research uses an inductive conclusion drawing method. Based on the research results and discussions that the researchers found. First: Regarding the factors that cause perpetrators to commit crimes of theft with violence in the Medan Police's legal area, namely educational factors, employment factors, economic factors, environment al factors, and drug factors. Second: In dealing with criminal acts of theft with violence, the Medan Police are carrying out Pre-emptive, Preventive and Repressive efforts. One way is to carry out patrol activities, carry out "jartup" (closed pursuit) actions, carry out kring serse activities, and process criminals.
