Abstract

This research was motivated by the increasing number of residents in Pengalihan Village, Keritang District, who had begun engaging in the practice of trading skinned betel nut. The problem formulation in this research was how the perspective of Sharia economics views this practice of trading skinned betel nut. The objective of this research was to understand how the perspective of Sharia economics views this practice of trading skinned betel nut. The subjects of this research were buyers (vendors). Meanwhile, the object of this research was the practice of trading skinned betel nut conducted by farmers and buyers in Pengalihan Village. The type of research used was field research. The research sources used were primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was qualitative, involving the processes of reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this research were based on the acknowledgments from farmers and buyers that this practice of trading skinned betel nut did not cause any losses to either farmers or buyers. Thus, this practice of trading skinned betel nut was categorized as involving a light level of uncertainty (gharar), and from the perspective of Sharia economics, its regulations were left to customs and traditions. This has also been explained in Fatwa DSN-MUI No: 110/DSN-MUI/IX/2017 regarding trading contracts, stating that such practices are permissible as long as they do not lead to disputes between the seller and the buyer.
