Abstract

The teaching and learning process cannot be separated from problems, one of which is student discipline. This study is motivated by the lack of discipline at Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Hidayah Pekanbaru. It can be seen from several phenomena that occur, such as: some students are late for class when learning is taking place, many students ignore the school rules, and many students do not take part in general lessons. The problem formulation of the study is the roles of teachers in improving the student discipline at Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Hidayah Pekanbaru. This is a qualitative study. The object of the study is the teachers’ roles in improving student discipline at Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Hidayah Pekanbaru. The main informants of the study are Mr. Muzzaky Mushoffa, S.Pd, a principal as well as a teacher of Aqidah Akhlak of Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Hidayah Pekanbaru and Mr. M. Machrus, S.Pd., a teacher of Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Hidayah Pekanbaru. The data collection techniques of the study are interview, observation and documentation. The data processing and analysis techniques of the study are data reduction, data display, drawing conclusions and data validity. The results of the study show that the teachers’ roles in improving student discipline are by: providing role models for students with the concept of uswatun hasanah, providing motivation to students to always be disciplined wherever and whenever, and providing supervision to students so that the student behaviors comply with the school rules. The school has determined that punishment should be given to students to provide a deterrent effect and improve student discipline
