Abstract

The gapping spark plug is the gap between the ground electrode and the center electrode where sparks arise. The problems that usually occur are decreased performance and high exhaust emissions. This happens as a result of changing the gapping of the spark plug during daily use. This study aims to find out how it influences and obtains gapping spark plug variations that can produce the best performance and exhaust emissions. This study uses Iridium type spark plugs and gapping 0.5, 0.8, 0.8, 1, and 1.2 mm which will be examined and analyzed. The data taken includes power, torque, fuel consumption, emission of carbon monoxide gas, and expenditure of hydrocarbon gas. From the results of the research data and analysis, it was obtained that the gapping spark plug which produced the best performance and exhaust emissions was the gapping spark plug with a size of 1.2 mm. Where performance is obtained with the highest power value of 11.8 HP, the highest torque value of 12.86 Nm, the fuel consumption value is 0.6006 (kg/kW), the specific material consumption value is 0.063( ?? ?? ?), , an average effective pressure value of 3527 KPa, a thermal efficiency value of 14.53%, and exhaust emissions with a carbon monoxide gas emission value of 0.22%, and a hydrocarbon gas emission value of 47 ppm .
