Abstract
The landing plate is a plate that is often used as the floor for pick-up cars or bus vehicle floors. This plate is made of material with a wavy shape. In use, the bordes plate often needs to be welded. However, welding problems are often found on thin plates because many welding defects are found. This study aims to determine the effect of plate and welding current on tensile strength, bending strength and microstructure of welded joints, as well as to relate SMAW welding results with variations in plate thickness and welding current using the NSNE308-16 electrode. The current used is 70, 80 and 90 A. While the plate thickness chosen is 4 and 5 mm. The research results are expected to provide a solution for the appropriate variation of current and plate thickness to obtain the best mechanical properties. This study aims to determine the effect of plate and welding current on tensile strength, bending strength, and microstructure. The electrode used in this study was NSN-308 E308-16. The welding method uses SMAW welding. Microstructure using an optical microscope. Mechanical strength was tested using a tensile testing machine. The results of microstructure observations were dominated by BM, WM, HAZ. Based on the tensile test on a plate thickness of 4 mm, the highest tensile strength value was 781.5 MPa at a current of 70 A. Meanwhile, for a thickness of 5 mm, the highest tensile strength value was 815.3 MPa at a current of 70 A. In the bending test with a plate thickness of 4 mm, the bending strength value was the highest was 31,379 MPa at a current of 70 A. Meanwhile, the thickness of 5 mm had the highest bending strength value, namely 43,174 at atus of 80 A. If it can be concluded that the bending test does not affect the thickness of the plate. Meanwhile, the tensile test affects the effect on the current. The higher the current, the lower the tensile strength value.
