Abstract
Welding is a process of joining gaps of two or more parts by using heat energy, so that the metal around the weld area undergoes changes in metallurgical structure, deformation and thermal stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of SMAW welding current variations on the strength of the ST 37 steel in tensile and impact tests. ST 37 steel plate which will affect the mechanical properties that occur after testing. Based on the results of the research data, it was found that the highest tensile test value was at a current of 120 A, which was 380 MPa, while the lowest tensile test result was at a current of 110 A, which was 321.6 MPa. In the impact test based on the research results the highest value is at a current of 110 A which is 1.69 J/mm 2 , while the lowest impact test result is at a current of 100 A which is 1.1 J/mm 2 .
