Abstract

The machining process is a manufacturing process in which objects are formed by removing or removing some of the material from the workpiece. This study aims to determine the surface roughness and hardness values of the average turning of ST 41 steel after hardfacing by using variations in infeed depth and cutting speed. In this research, we also look for the optimal parameters of infeed depth and cutting speed in the flat turning process of ST 41 steel after welding hardfacing. In this study, ST 41 steel material was used with a diameter of 30 and a length of 100 mm. Then the ST 41 steel was welded backfill, using SMAW type welding with Hardfacing welding on the surface with a surface length of 30 mm, so that the resulting diameter became 33mm. Then a flat turning process was carried out using variations in cutting speeds of 40 mm/minute, 35 mm/minute, 25 mm/minute, and using variations in infeed depth of 0.5 mm, 1 mm and 1.5 mm. After the flat turning process is carried out, the process of measuring surface roughness and testing the Brinell hardness of ST 41 steel after hardfacing is carried out. The highest surface roughness results, namely 4,363 ?m, were obtained at a cutting speed (Cs) of 25 mm/min and a depth of cut of 1.5 mm, while the lowest or best surface roughness, namely 2?m, was obtained at a cutting speed of 40 mm/min and a depth of cut of 1.5 mm. The lowest hardness of brinell is 137.15 kg/mm 2 obtained from a cutting speed (Cs) of 40 mm/min and a depth of cut of 1.5 mm, while the highest hardness is 167.61 kg/mm 2 with a cutting speed of 25 mm/min with Depth of cut 0.5 mm.
