Abstract

Criminal acts are serious problems that have a wide impact on victims, perpetrators, and society. The approach in conventional law enforcement often focuses on punishment for perpetrators without considering victim recovery and community reconciliation. Therefore, the concept of restorative justice is important to be applied in resolving humanitarian cases. This approach emphasizes the restoration of disturbed social relations, victim recovery, and perpetrator rehabilitation through dialogue and mediation. This study aims to explore the application of the principle of restorative justice in the context of integration in Indonesia, with a focus on the challenges, benefits, and impacts on society. Based on the background above, the author is interested in conducting research on these matters by taking the main problem, namely, how to apply the principle of restorative justice in criminal acts including in the jurisdiction of the Tenayan Raya Police, Pekanbaru City, then find out what obstacles arise in the application of the principle of restorative justice to criminal acts in the jurisdiction of the Tenayan Raya Police, Pekanbaru City. This research method applies an observational or survey type of research, which involves sampling from a certain population and using interviews as the main method of data collection. In terms of its nature, this study can be classified as a descriptive study that aims to describe the conditions of the subject or object of research based on the facts obtained. The results of the study indicate that the Tenayan Raya Police apply a restorative justice approach in handling merger cases, which aims to achieve peace between the perpetrator and the victim through mediation. Cases that can be resolved through restorative justice usually include humanitarian considerations, family relationships between the perpetrator and the victim, and relatively small material losses. This process includes information gathering, mediation, and a peace agreement between the two parties. Although restorative justice can resolve many cases effectively, not all cases can be resolved in this way. Investigators must still consider formal and material requirements in accordance with applicable regulations. Through this approach, the Tenayan Raya Police seeks to create a fair and fast solution for all parties involved in criminal acts, while reducing the burden on the formal criminal system.
