Abstract
The development of crime continues to increase along with the development of science and technology. In the past, crimes could only be committed directly or actually at the place or object where the crime was committed, for example people committing fraud. Before the development of science and technology, this fraud could only be carried out directly by people. perpetrators of fraud, but in the current era this fraud can be carried out anywhere at any time, without the perpetrators having to meet each other, the author's meaning here is that currently there is a development of forms of crime or criminal acts of fraud, previously fraud was only direct fraud, now fraud can be carried out indirectly, namely online fraud, or fraud carried out through the media, smartphones or other electronic devices connected to the internet network. The main problem in the research is what are the factors causing criminal acts of fraud in the jurisdiction of the Tapung downstream police station, what is the modus operandi of fraud in the jurisdiction of the Tapung downstream police station and what are the police's efforts in handling criminal acts of fraud in the jurisdiction of the Tapung downstream police station. This research is research using empirical legal research methods in which the researcher conducts research related to problems directly in the field, and conducts interviews with related parties, both the police in the downstream tapung sector and the perpetrators of fraud. This research is qualitative descriptive in nature in which the researcher describe and write facts researched in the field regarding overcoming fraud crimes in the jurisdiction of the Tapung downstream police, and explore the factors that cause fraud. The factor in which fraud occurs in the jurisdiction of the Tapung downstream police is technological progress which is growing rapidly so that fraud can be accessed anywhere, apart from that it is also driven by other factors such as economic factors, environmental factors themselves, adequate means and facilities and community factors. itself, and the efforts currently being made are to carry out pre-emptive and preventive actions such as providing information regarding fraud.
