Abstract

This study is motivated by the low morals of students at SMPN 2 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The researcher found some phenomena such as some students who say bad words, disturb other students during class time, quarrel and do not obey the school rules, behave rude to the teachers and come late to school. This study aims to investigate the influence of family environment on students’ morals in grade VIII at SMPN 2 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu regency. This study applies a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The population of the study is all students in grade VIII with a sample size of 115 students. The data collection technique of the study is questionnaires. The results of the study show that there is an influence of family environment on students’ morals in grade VIII at SMPN 2 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency. From the results of the descriptive test, it is known that the level of family environment of students’ morals in grade VIII at SMPN 2 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency is 88.9% which is in the range of 85% - 100% or a very good level and the level of students’ morals in grade VIII is 90.9% which is in the range of 85% - 100%, or in a very good level. Based on the results of simple linear regression analysis, a significance value is less than 0.05 or 0.000 < 0.05. The magnitude of the influence of family environment on students’ morals is 0.526 or 52.6% which is categorized as quite strong because it is in the range of 0.40 – 0.599 in the correlation coefficient interpretation table while the remaining 47.4% is influenced by other factors not included in this study. Thus, the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the level of influence of the family environment on students’ morals at SMPN 2 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau province is quite strong.
