Abstract

Self-confidence is one of the keys to student success in achieving good learning outcomes. Confidence can help students to be braver when discussing, contributing, asking questions, expressing opinions, or answering questions. The open-ended approach is one of the learning approaches used to develop students’ self-confidence. The aim of the open-ended approach is to ask students to play a more active role in learning. The aim of the study to find out what efforts made by the Madrasah teachers in developing students’ self-confidence through the open-ended approach at MTsN 1 Pekanbaru. The data collection techniques of the study are interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the efforts made by the teachers in developing students’ self-confidence through the open-ended approach at MTsN 1 Pekanbaru are by providing motivation, providing opportunities, holding positive discussions, doing exploration, simplifying language, focusing on lessons, being responsible, giving rewards, and explaining students’ shortcomings.
