Abstract

Riau is a province that has the largest peatland in Sumatra. This condition causes many oil pipelines in Riau province to pass through areas containing peat water. Peat water has characteristics that are not the same as other types of water. Peat water causes pipes to rust. Therefore, efforts need to be made to prevent corrosion in oil pipelines due to peat water. One of the corrosion prevention efforts is to use coatings. Coating (coating) is used on the surface of the piping system and equipment in contact with free air and soil surface due to the presence of air and soil acids. In this final project will use rubber sap (Hevea Brasiliensis) as a natural polymer and a mixture using Star Fruit leaf extract for the formation of coating material. This study aims to determine the effect of coating composition on the rate of corrosion of low carbon steel in peat water media. In this research will be made a mixture of coating of rubber sap and leaf extract starfruit with a variation ratio of 1:1, 1:2 and 1: 3 with a period of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 days. It is expected from this research will obtain the composition of the coating mixture is appropriate to inhibit the rate of corrosion.
