Abstract

This research was motivated by the issue of found items (luqathah) that frequently occurred in daily life, whether finding items of low value or those of high value (precious), whether in the status of the finder (al-multaqit) or those who lost their belongings. Such issues were often trivialized and considered found items as a form of fortune or gain for the finder, commonly known as unclaimed blessings that did not need to be returned to their owners. Such a viewpoint is entirely unacceptable from both a social ethics and Islamic religious norm perspective. The aim of this research was to understand how students at the Islamic University of Riau perceived found items (luqathah). The purpose of this research was to enhance the researcher's knowledge about found items (luqathah), serve as a reference for students at the Islamic University of Riau to broaden their insights into Islamic economics, particularly found items (luqathah), and identify the strengths and weaknesses in students' understanding of found items (luqathah). This research was a quantitative study that employed a survey method. The research subjects were students at the Islamic University of Riau, and the object of the study was the students' understanding of found items (luqathah). The total population was 28,923 students, and the sample size was 100 students determined using the Slovin formula. Data collection in this research conducted through the distribution of questionnaires. The data was analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and diagrams. The findings of this research indicated that students had varying levels of understanding about found items (luqathah). Some had a good understanding, while others had limited or no understanding. The average responses were 3.96% (very understanding) for statements 7 and 9, 2.93% (less understanding) for statement 10, and 2.65% (not understanding) for statement 2.
