Abstract
This research aims to determine the challenges of junior high school mathematics teachers in Pekanbaru and describe these challenges in preparing to implement the independent curriculum and find the right solution to these problems. This type of research is a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research. The population in this study were 5 SMPNs in Pekanbaru including: SMPN 25 Pekanbaru, SMPN 13 Pekanbaru, SMPN 10 Pekanbaru, SMPN 22 Pekanbaru, and SMPN 26 Pekanbaru. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews and documentation techniques. In this research, to test the validity of the data, the researcher used a credibility test using triangulation of techniques. The results of the research show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum by Middle School Mathematics teachers in Pekanbaru is in the Good category, with details of 10 teachers, 5 teachers are in the sufficient category while 5 more are in the Good category. Based on subjects from 5 schools, each consisting of 2 teachers, they show different obstacles, but in certain aspects they have the same obstacles.
