Abstract
Drilling mud is an important component in the drilling process, such as protecting the production formation, controlling the pressure of the formation, assisting stability in the formation and cleaning the bottom of the borehole. To avoid problems that occur in the drilling process, the type of drilling sludge used must be in accordance with the conditions of the formation, for example the type of KCl polymer drilling sludge, commonly used in sand formations containing clay. Rheology and filtration loss in the drilling mud must be controlled, so that there are no obtacles that cause losses in drilling. One of the ways to control rheology and filtration loss is by using additives. Some of the additives used in drilling sludge are CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose), PAC (Polyanionic Cellulose), xanthan gum, KCl (Potassium Chloride), boehmite, starch, calcium carbonat and nano material. In this study, calcium carbonate (CaCO3) additives from eggshells. The eggshell was chosen because it contains 94% CaCO3. CaCO3 is well used in sand formations, so it is effectively added to the KCl polymer sludge through laboratory experimental methods. This study is expected to produce sludge rheology values according to standards and can control the volume of filtration loss in KCl polymer sludge. The results obtained in this study showed changes in values for viscosity, apparent viscosity, plastic viscosity, yield point, gel strength, filtration loss and mud cake thickness with values according to standard specifications at the addition of a concentration of 12 grams and 15 grams of additive CaCO3 egg shells. Thus, in determining the rheological xiv properties and filtration loss of KCl polymer sludge in this study, it can be concluded that the addition of eggshell CaCO3 additives with high concentrations can be used as a substitute for commercial CaCO3 additives
