Abstract

Counterproductive work behavior carried out by a number of employees results in losses and damages the reputation of the organization. Several things are suspected to be the cause of these cases, one of which is the lack of emotional intelligence in employees which causes counterproductive work behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on counterproductive work behavior among Kemenkum HAM employees. The research subjects amounted to 165 people. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling. The data collection method used the Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test emotional intelligence scale from Oktaviani, F., and Suyasa, PTY (2021) consisting of 33 items and the counterproductive work behavior scale was measured using the Counterproductive Work Behavior Checklist (CWB-C) adaptation of Anggraini (2014) consisting of 31 items. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) with smartPLS 3.0 M3 software. The results in this study indicate that the path coefficient value of the influence of emotional intelligence on counterproductive work behavior is -0.246 with a p value of 0.019 <0.05 and a t-value of 2.350. This value is greater than t table for n = 165 and k = 2 is 1.98. Because t count 2.350 > t table 1.98. So it was concluded that emotional intelligence has a negative and significant effect on counterproductive work behavior, so the hypothesis is accepted. This means that the higher the level of emotional intelligence, the lower the counterproductive work behavior of employees of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the lower the emotional intelligence, the higher the counterproductive work behavior of employees of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
