Abstract

Sosa Subdistrict is one of the sub-districts that has the largest area of smallholder oil palm plantations in Padang Lawas Regency, which is 4,626.25 Ha with a productivity of 10.65 Tons / Ha. This study aims to analyze (1) the characteristics of farmers (age, level of education, farm experience, number of family members) farm business profile (land ownership and business capital), (2) farm business efficiency (3) use of production factors (plant population, labor, NPK fertilizer, dolomite, herbicides), (4) efficiency of production factors (technical efficiency, price efficiency, economic efficiency). The research method uses the survey method, the number of samples of 40 farmers. Data analysis using descriptive statistical analysis, farm efficiency analysis, multiple linear regression analysis of Cobb-Douglas functions, production factor analysis. The results of the study (1) Characteristics of smallholder oil palm farmers in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency with an average age of 45 years, farmer education level of 10 years, 12 years of farming experience and the number of family members of 3 people. For the profile of farming, the status of land ownership is land owned by farmers themselves and the source of capital, namely the farmer's personal capital. (2) Community oil palm farming in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency with an average plant population of 346.05 principal, labor 212.28 HKP / Garapan / Year, NPK fertilizer 936.45 Kg / Garapan / Year, dolomite fertilizer 1384.20 Kg / Garapan / Year, and herbicides 28.30 liters / Garapan / Year. In one production process, the average farmer spends a production cost of Rp 33,630,848, with an average palm oil production of 65,851 Kg / cultivation / year. The average gross income of farmers is IDR 134,336,448, and net income is IDR 100,705,601. (3) Factors affecting people's oil palm production in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency, are labor and dolomite fertilizer at the level of 5%. Meanwhile, plant populations, NPK fertilizers and herbicides have no significant effect on smallholder oil palm production. (4) Technical efficiency, price efficiency and economic efficiency of the use of production factors in smallholder oil palm farming in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency are not on average efficient, farmers must increase the use of inputs to increase production. If farmers add the use of inputs, Then the efficiency of production factors will be achieved so that it can increase the productivity of smallholder palm oil.
