Abstract

In this study, more emphasis is placed on law enforcement against perpetrators of gambling crimes in the Legal Area of the Barumun Police, Padang Lawas Regency, which is experiencing an increase in cases every year. This makes the community uneasy because of the gambling cases that have occurred, even though many have been caught red-handed in gambling, there are still many perpetrators who have not been processed, because many of the authorities do not know about it and many people also do not know about it. The main problem in this study is how to enforce the law against the perpetrators of gambling crimes in the Legal Area of the Barumun Police, Padang Lawas Regency and see what obstacles are in law enforcement against the perpetrators of gambling crimes in Padang Lawas Regency. In this paper, there are two types of research used, namely socio-empirical research and library research. The research method used is a qualitative descriptiveanalytical method. To collect primary and secondary data obtained from respondents either through interviews or the results of library research to be used as data or information as material in writing this research. The results of this study are that law enforcement for gambling crimes is classified as good but not optimal because educating all levels of society about gambling is less effective, gambling that occurs in Padang Lawas is still classified as recognizable by the police where gambling cases in Padang Lawas are still at a safe level. Obstacles in eradicating gambling in Padang Lawas, namely: Light penalties for gamblers and bookies, the community factor that is already addicted to gambling games, the mindset of people who want to make a lot of money in a short time without having to work hard.
