Abstract

ADDITIVE CMC ANALYSIS OF JAVA ASA SEED ON FILTRATION LOSS AND RHEOLOGY IN DRILLING MUD JULASTRI MANSAH 173210021 ABSTRACT Filtration loss is water contained in the drilling mud entering the formation. Filtration greatly affects the drilling performance of oil and gas wells. The additive used to overcome filtration loss is carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC). This additive is a type of chemical that is quite widely used, so research was carried out to obtain new additive materials, one of which was CMC from tamarind seeds with a polysaccharide content of 50% - 60%. The rheology of drilling mud that must be controlled in a drilling operation, whether oil or gas or geothermal, is viscosity, plastic viscosity, yield points, and gel strength. From the results of filtration loss and rheology studies using CMC tamarind seeds with concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Obtained filtration loss values of 10.4 – 7.5 ml/30 minutes, mud cake obtained values ranging from 0.35 – 1.2 mm, gel strength values obtained 0.5238 – 0.6923 lb/100 ft2, yield point values obtained 31 – 45 lb/100 ft2, plastic viscosity values obtained 13 – 33 cp, viscosity values obtained 46.10 – 51 .04 s/quart. The more CMC additions, the greater the value obtained. The more CMC mass of tamarind seeds is added, the filtrate volume value obtained from filtration loss will decrease because the mud is thicker and all the results meet the standard.CMC, Tamarind Seed, Filtration Loss, Rheology
