Abstract
Arifin Ahmad's unsignalized intersection is on the Arifin Ahmad and Pekanbaru roads, Pekanbaru city. This unsignalized intersection has 3 (three) arms, with 2 (lane) 3 (three) lanes and there is a median. The high degree of saturation (DS) caused by the volume of traffic flow so that this situation causes congestion or buildup of vehicles. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of unsignalized intersection traffic flow, to determine the degree of saturation (DS) value in unsignalized intersection performance, the alternatives used in optimizing Arifin Ahmad's unsignalized intersection, what is the degree of saturation (DS) value after optimization and how comparison of the value of the degree of saturation (DS) before and after the optimization action. The research technique used was direct field surveys during peak hours for 3 (three) busy days and 1 (one) off-peak day to obtain the necessary data such as intersection geometry, traffic flow volume and others. Then the data obtained was processed and analyzed using the 1997 Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI). This type of research includes quantitative descriptive in assessing the performance of intersection traffic. The results obtained from the analysis of the existing condition of Arifin Ahmad's unsignalized intersection obtained a degree of saturation (DS) value of 3, which exceeds the value suggested by MKJI 1997, which is <0.75. The alternative step used is the planning of roundabout braiding with the degree of saturation obtained on average of 0.74, the value of each braid is 0.619 in the braided BC section, 0.667 in the braided CD section and 0.939 in the braided DB section.
