Abstract

Cultural Adaptation in Mixed Chinese-Melayu Ethnic Marriages in Riau Meranti Islands Regency Tuah Jagad Saputro Npm : 189110102 The cultural adaptation was carried out by a mixed ethnic Chinese and Malay couple. So that in conducting intercultural communication, adaptation is a sure thing to happen when a culture interacts with different cultural backgrounds. Because they tend to be so easy to adapt to their own culture. So it often becomes a difficulty and becomes a problem in making adjustments to other cultures. This study aims to find out how the cultural adaptation of mixed Chinese-Malay ethnic marriages in Riau Meranti Islands Regency. This study used a qualitative method by conducting interviews and observations of three pairs of research subjects with ethnic Chinese-Malay backgrounds. This study uses the theory of cultural adaptation by Gudykunst and kim which explains cultural adaptation. The results of the study explain that cultural adaptation in Chinese-Malay ethnic couples includes mutual understanding and respect, namely easy adjustment and getting to know each other, getting used to the partner's culture, namely mutual understanding and respect for the partner's culture, communicating using Indonesian because Indonesian is a language that samgau is commonly used, and the harmonious attitude in the household is to keep commitments to one another.
