Abstract

During the generation Z period that lives in the digital era, it is important to try to find constructions in parenting so that children can survive and have a future. The role of parents in dealing with them is certainly not easy, so information is needed to help parents overcome problems due to generational differences that might cause different views regarding the parenting style that is applied, one of which is authoritarian parenting. The purpose of this study was to find out the description of early adolescent authoritarian parenting in Generation Z at SMP Negeri 26 Pekanbaru. The number of respondents in the study was 5 people. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Methods of data collection using observation, focus group discussion and interviews. The results of the study can be concluded that parenting styles of parents who apply authoritarian parenting apply strict rules and expect obedience without much explanation tend to show characteristics such as tight control, limited communication, emphasis on obeying rules, discipline and responsibility. Parenting style applied by parents has positive and negative values in parenting. Parenting patterns are very important in implementing the roles between the two parents so that there are no gaps in two-way communication and warmth in children. Effective parenting in Generation Z should focus on developing independence, social and emotional skills, open communication and recognition of children's freedom in choosing to make decisions, providing protection for children's lives is very important but what needs to be considered is that parents must understand from various sides the wishes of children by looking at relevant aspects of current parenting patterns relying on existing technology, so that in the future it does not cause problems in children's moral and socio-emotional development.
