Abstract

Family social support greatly influences the mental health of the mother who has just given birth. Postpartum depression is a psychiatric disorder that occurs a few days after giving birth. These disorders include unstable feelings such as sadness, confusion, and feeling uncomfortable (dysphoria). Family social support itself is a close emotional relationship with that person, it can be in the form of comfort, caring, self-esteem, and all forms of assistance that individuals receive from other people. The impact of low family social support obtained by mothers who have just given birth can lead to the incidence of postpartum depression. Based on these problems, the authors conducted a study to find out how much the relationship between family social support and postpartum events. The author used a quantitative research method. The sample in this study was 183 mothers after giving birth for a maximum of 7 days. The data collection instrument was carried out using a questionnaire containing two scales, namely the Dinni-Diffa Postpartum Scale and the Family Social Support Scale. The results of the study between family social support and postpartum depression were r = 0.235 and p value = 0.001 (p <0.05), which is there was a significant negative relationship between family social relations and postpartum depression. This shows that the higher the family social support it gets, the lower the postpartum depression in postpartum mothers.
