Abstract

Perawang Barat is an area located in Tualang sub-district, Siak Regency, Riau Province. Perawang Barat is known as an industrial area where Perawang Barat is one of the areas that has the largest paper mill in Indonesia. As the population increases and the number of people using the highway for activities will indirectly cause problems and the impact of traffic accidents. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of traffic accidents on the West Perawang Regional Government road during the 2016 - 2020 period, to find out the accident-prone locations on the West Perawang Barat Regional Government road, and to provide alternatives for preventing future traffic accidents. This type of research is descriptive research, namely research that describes current conditions, this study uses the Accident Equivalent Rate (AEK) method and the Upper Control Limit (UCL) method. If the AEK value is greater than the UCL value, it will be categorized as a traffic accident prone location. The results of the characteristics of traffic accident data from 2016 - 2020 are highest based on per segment, the highest in segment 5 is 39 events, based on the time from 12.01 to 18.00 WIB with 69 events, based on the day Saturday is 30 events, based on the class of minor injuries (LR) of 165 victims, based on gender, namely male, 238 victims, based on age were less than 18 years (<18) and 23-27 years with a total of 64 victims, based on the type of motorcycle with a total of 220 vehicle. The accident location based on the Accident Equivalent Number (AEK) method and the Upper Control Limit (UCL) method can be identified in seven segments, namely segment 3 in 2016 AEK:147 UCL:116, segment 5 in 2017 AEK:111 UCL:80, segment 4 and 5 in 2018, segment 1 AEK:66 UCL:64 and segment 5 AEK: 99 UCL:67 in 2019, and segment 5 AEK:111 UCL: 73 in 2020 which has an AEK value higher than the UCL value including location prone to traffic accidents. Alternative prevention and treatment in the form of installing traffic signs, repairing roads, and making road markings to reduce traffic accidents.
