Abstract

Good road conditions will facilitate the mobility of the population in economic relations and other social activities. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the condition in good condition with maintenance according to road conditions. So it is necessary to know the condition of the road, especially the Duri – Rangau road, Mandau District on flexible pavement. This study aims to determine the type of damage that occurs in the pavement layer and assess the condition of the pavement using the Surface Distress Index (SDI) and Present Serviceability Index (PSI) methods. This study uses two methods, namely the SDI method and the PSI method. Data collection is carried out by surveying road surface damage as initial data and then calculated based on predetermined formulas. The scoring system using the SDI method has 4 elements that can be used, namely the percentage of cracked area, the average crack width, the number of holes, and the average rutting depth of the ruts, while the scoring system uses the PSI method based on observations of road conditions including damages such as cracks. - cracks, grooves, potholes, deflections in wheel lanes, surface roughness and so on that occur during the service life. The types of damage found on the Duri – Rangau road section include crocodile skin cracks, longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, patches, potholes, pavement edge defects and grooves. The results of the analysis of road conditions at the level of road surface damage indicate that the value of the SDI method has an average value of 33 which is included in the range of values 0-50 for good road conditions, while the value of the PSI method indicates that the function of good road services is indicated by the value of PSI 3.26 which includes a range of values from 3 to 4. Therefore, periodic surveys of pavement conditions can be carried out so that information on pavement conditions can be useful for predicting future performance, besides that it also requires routine maintenance and repairs.
