Abstract
The purpose of this study is to see the character of the general public in understanding the meaning contained in the song lyrics of Batimang Desa Batu Sanggan Kec. Kampar Kiri Hulu, Kab. Kampar, Prov. Riau. Also how is the value of character education contained in the song lyrics of Batimang Desa Batu Sanggan Kec. Kampar Kiri Hulu, the. The theory used in this research is a theory from According to Muchlas Samani and Hariyanto (2011: 41) character is interpreted as a way of thinking and behaving that is unique to each individual to live and work together, both in society, nation and state. Individuals with good character are individuals who can make decisions and are ready to take responsibility for any consequences of their decisions. Character can be considered as the values of human behavior related to God Almighty, oneself, fellow humans, the environment, and nationality which are manifested in thoughts, attitudes, feelings, words, and actions based on religious norms, laws, and manners. , culture, customs and aesthetics. Character is behavior that appears in everyday life both in attitude and in action. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview and documentation techniques. The research approach used in this research is a qualitative approach. The result of this research is that Batimang is one of the traditional arts passed down from generation to generation from its previous ancestors and is still being developed today. And the tool used in Batimang art is a swing. The lyrics also vary, ranging from advice, religion, to adult household advice consisting of moral education values, cultural education values and religious education values. There is also advice in living the world at large, as well as how to socialize with others.
