Abstract
The objective in this research is to find out vocabulary mastery of the second year students at SMPN 4 Bangun Sari Kampar Kiri Hilir. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative research. This is a kind of research a form of research based on data collected during the study systematically the facts and the properties of the object studied by combining the relationship between variables involved in it, then interpreted based on the theories and related literature. Research instrument consisted of 20 question has been filled by 32 students. The research concluded students’ vocabulary mastery score was 59,69 categorized “fair”. Students got score 86,88 categorized “very good” level in noun component. Students got score 58,13 categorized “poor” level in adjective component. Students got score 46,25 categorized “poor” level in adverb component. Students got score 47,50 categorized “poor” level in verb component. It is mean students still do not understand adverb and verb because of the lack of correct answers that can be influenced their vocabulary mastery.
