Abstract

Video is one of media to help teacher explains the materials clearly. Video can make students enjoyed to follow English class. While, speaking is expression of people to give information orally. In speaking activities, video can help them to improve their speaking. In this case, this research focused on students’ speaking ability of transactional and interpersonal dialogues. The purpose of this research was to improve students’ speaking ability by using video. This research used classroom action research. This research had two cycles in eight meetings, each meetings was in 2x40 minutes. In which, the researcher worked in designing the lesson plan, action, observation and reflection. The subject of this research was students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu academic year of 2016/2017. The participants of this research were seven grade students. The finding showed that video able to improve the students’ speaking ability on transactional and interpersonal dialogues. It can be seen from increasing result of students in cycle one to cycle two. The result showed the average score of students was 10,5 in cycle one and 11.6 in cycle two. The factors of influence the improvement of students’ ability were the materials and classroom activity by using video.
