Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim to improve the results of student’s cognitive achievement of biology science at class VIII3 SMP Negeri 20 Pekanbaru in academic year 2016/2017 by implementing cooperative learning Jigsaw II using Handout. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) that was conducted on August 20, 2016 until October 03, 2016. Results of preliminary observations in Pekanbaru SMP Negeri 20 obtained problems in this study is as many as 60% students of class VIII3 SMP Negeri 20 Pekanbaru study results are still low with an average of 74.4% and cognitive abilities completeness of classical cognitive value 60%. To improve student learning outcomes in the subjects of biology, then do action research by implementation of cooperative learning Jigsaw II by using Handout. The subjects were all students of SMP Negeri 20 Pekanbaru VIII3 classes totaling 40 students consisting of 16 male students and 24 female students. Data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. Analysis of learning improve are conducted a cycle which consists of twelve meetings, Cognitive achievement before the CAR was (74.4%), after CAR at the first cycle of the students absorption is (80.97%) increased 6.57%, from the prior CAR. In the second cycle of the students absorption was (86.07%) increased 5.1% from cycle I. The completeness of classical cognitive value before CAR is (60%), the first cycle (90%) increase 30% from the prior CAR and the second cycle 97.5% increase 7.5% of the first cycle. It can be concluded that the implementation of cooperative learning Jigsaw II by using Handout can improve the student’s cognitive achievement of Biology at Class VIII3 SMP Negeri 20 Pekanbaru in 2016/2017 academic year.
