Abstract

This research aims to determine the student learning outcome VIII1 of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2016/2017 through the application of learning discussion method. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Collection was conducted from January to February 2017. The subjects were students of grade VIII1 totaled 32 students. The collection in this study with descriptive analysis. Descriptive analysis of the results of student learning is done in 2 cycles consisting of 10 meetings. The average absorption before CAR was 65,06%, the 1 nd cycle the average of student learning outcomes was increased about 0,16% compared to without CAR implementation. At the 2 st nd cycle, it was increased sharply to 84,01% (18,79%) than 1 st cycle. The learning outcomes that showed by scientific performance before CAR was 69,93%, 1 st cycle average absorption scientific performance was 71,41% increased was 1,48% from the prior CAR. 2 cycle average absorption scientific performance was 86,37% increased was 14,96% from the 1 nd. Based on the research concluded that the teaching and learning activities with the implementation of discussion method using picture media to improve student learning outcomes biology at class VIII1 of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2016/2017.
