Abstract
This study aims to improve student learning outcomes after applied methods of observation with the help of handouts on VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang Academic Year 2016/2017. This research was conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang, data collection started from February 22 until March 23, 2017. The subjects of the study were students of class VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang, which amounted to 28 students. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). Data were analyzed descriptively. The data collection instrument is taken from quiz, PR and Test values, while the KI data is taken from the portfolio value and performance. The result of data analysis shows that students' cognitive absorption 69,3% before CAR becomes 80,0% in cycle 1 and in cycle II also increased to 83,2%. Similarly, the psychomotor value before the CAR was 74.6% to 81.8% in cycle 1, and in cycle II increased by 1.6% to 83.4%. It can be concluded that the application of observation method using handout can improve the learning result of biology of VIIA class students in SMP Negeri1 Bangkinang Lesson Year 2016/2017.
