Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out student’s writing ability. The researcher expected the students would be able to wrote good paragraph and considered the components of writing well. The component are grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, fluency, and organization. The design of the research is a qualitative design. This research gives the description about analysis of students’ writing ability on recount text of second years of SMP YLPI Marpoyan Pekanbaru. The source of data was writing test. The researcher used three rater to analyze students’ writing test based on scoring rubric of writing. The result of the study showed that students’ writing of recount text was categorized as good level (70,04). There are 5 students that got high score or achieve the standard passing grade (KKM) in writing. It was found that the students’ weakness in writing recount text is in mechanics aspect with mean score 61,2 and the students’ strength in writing recount text is in content aspect with mean score 83,1. Based on the result of students’ writing test it can be seen most of students still have difficulties in writing recount text such as some inaccuracy in punctuation and spelling, frequent grammatical inaccuracy such as the use of past tense, repetition words and difficult in generic structure of recount text.
