Abstract

Academic procrastination is a behavioral postponement when starting, doing and completing academic tasks. Social support is an affecting factor on student academic procrastination, the existence of social support is very effective to help individuals, especially students to finish the study. The objective of this study is to determine the correlation between parental social support and academic procrastination on Psychology Faculty students of Islamic University of Riau. Data collection method uses academic procrastination research scale with 27 items and parental social support scale with amount of 49 items which disseminated to 89 Psychology Faculty students of Islamic University of Riau. The sampling technique used in this research is random sampling technique. Data analysis method used is Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Based on the analysis test, it is found that there is a negative correlation between parental social support and academic procrastination on the Psychology Faculty students of Islamic University of Riau with correlation coefficient (r) value -0,594 (**) and significance value (p) of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The higher parental social support results the lower the academic procrastination on the Psychology Faculty students of Islamic University of Riau. Conversely, the lower parental social support results the higher academic procrastination on the Psychology Faculty students of Islamic University of Riau.
