Abstract
This study aims to find out how the form and motivation of using Instagram hidden accounts as a media for self-disclosure in female K-Pop fans in Pekanbaru. This research is based on the phenomenon of increasing use of social media, esprecially Instagram, as a space to express themselves. However, not all individuals feel comfortable displaying themselves openly on the main account, so hidden accounts appear as a more private space. The theory used in this study is the Johari Window theory. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling techniques and data collection techniques carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study show that the form of self-disclosure carried out by informants on hidden accounts through Instagram stories, Instagram feeds, and Instagram highlights. It includes expressing emotions (happy and sad), personal stories, and content related to their K-Pop idols. Their motivation for using hidden accounts is to get a safe space, maintain privacy, and avoid negative judgments from others. In addition, the use of hidden accounts also reflects selective communication behavior, where they prefer the story feature as a means of open communication compared to direct message (DM). The findings of this study were analyzed using the Johari Window theory, self-disclosure which is shown to focus more on hidden areas.
